CMES Robotics is making the U.S. debut of its AI-powered mixed-case robotic palletizer at PACK EXPO 2026 in Chicago. The system, which launched internationally in Q1 2026, uses AI-driven vision and grasping technology to identify, orient, and stack cases of varying sizes and shapes onto a single pallet. Traditional palletizing automation is typically limited to uniform case sizes or requires significant manual intervention for mixed loads.
The CMES system is engineered specifically for mixed-SKU pallets common in 3PL and omnichannel distribution centers. It targets three core operational pressures: labor shortages for physically demanding repetitive work, throughput bottlenecks during peak volumes, and elevated injury risk from manual palletizing. Senior Vice President David Callen noted that U.S. operators have sought solutions capable of handling real-world variability rather than only uniform cases.
The company states the system is designed for integration into existing lines without major facility redesign and with a deployment timeline shorter than many operators expect from robotic automation. Live demonstration at the show allows operators to evaluate performance on variable case mixes. This technology supports higher automation rates in environments where SKU diversity has historically limited robotic palletizing adoption, helping distribution centers increase throughput, reduce dependence on scarce labor, and lower injury exposure while maintaining flexibility for changing order profiles.
